Begin Log:

I have decided to follow naval tradition and continue to refer to these entries as the "Captain's Log" despite my recent promotion to commodore. There's still a lot I need to get used to, though the new uniform isn't as bad as Admiral Meyer suggest. The hardest part to get accustomed to is being announced everywhere I go. Either it's going to have to go or I might just go crazy. It seems to distancing for my tastes and I like to work with my crew.

The Tethys is due to depart in half an hour from Menok Nor. Our assignment is to chart the region known as the Golden Discontinuity and catalog various phenomena. The area is very similar to the Badlands, consisting of plasma storms and anomalies that Starfleet thinks might make it a natural site for wormholes or a possible site for artificial ones.

My Chief Engineer is concerned that the storms will pose a threat to the ship itself and so I have asked Commander Earlond and Lieutenant Kyle to work on shoring up the shields and finding other ways to improve protection. Dr. Evans and Dr. Winchester are working on possible radiation protocols should we encounter the high radiation levels sometimes associated with wormhole formations.

The most important thing is that we are out to explore and it makes me feel good to be setting out on this mission to learn more about the universe around us.
